Shimogamo is an absolute gem in Gilbert, and it is a rarity to find a restaurant that consistently nails both exceptional food and exceptional service. We have dined here in person four times now, including a recent dinner with friends visiting from Miami, and every experience has been nothing short of extraordinary. While I had never ventured beyond sushi into the broader, richer world of Japanese cuisine before discovering this spot, the staff here made me feel completely comfortable and guided us perfectly. Their sushi is undeniably "off the chain" amazing, but the rest of their menu is equally impressive, with an exquisite presentation that truly elevates every dish. The service at this intimate restaurant is truly top-tier. I want to specifically shout out our wonderful servers, Sophia and Christina, who have been fantastic. It is an incredible touch that when I call to make reservations, they immediately recognize who I am. Even though the price point is high, the old adage that "you get what you pay for" is more than true here. In fact, we have dined at very high-end restaurants, including a recent visit to a Japanese steakhouse in Las Vegas that was three times the price, and we both firmly agreed that the food at Shimogamo was superior. If you are new to Japanese cuisine, I cannot recommend this place enough—they will take excellent care of you. My best advice is to order the Omakase and simply put yourself in the hands of the chef. During our dinner last night, we had a complex set of needs: I cannot eat raw or undercooked shellfish due to a medical condition, and one of our friends is a vegetarian who does not eat meat. Despite these constraints, the team put together the most extraordinary feast, expertly balancing our à la carte choices with the Omakase to ensure everyone was accommodated respectfully and deliciously.

Shimogamo has exceptional food quality and provides a tantalizing experience from beginning to end. Beautifully appointed seating/bar area, staff is beyond knowledgeable and the chefs serve up something I can only articulate as something that must be experienced! Visually artful, delicate & colorful; delightfully tantalizing on the palate you’ll think you’re in heaven. Well done!!!

Absolutely love Shimogamo! The food is amazing. Sushi is fresh and the skewers were delicious. We come here several times a year cause it’s just so good. The service last night was money. I apologize for forgetting our server’s name but she was on point. Super knowledgeable and friendly. Everything you want from a server and a restaurant. Thank you for the great experience as usual.

We always love coming back! My partner has gluten and dairy allergies and the staff + kitchen always make sure he’s taken care of! I appreciate that so much! Great food paired with care :)

I absolutely loved the hirame ceviche and the trout ! I'd eat the ceviche like soup if I could. I found the nose-tickling finish on the ceviche unexpected and exciting, and found the various textures and flavor combinations of the trout dish intriguing. Thank you for the experience and inspiration :)
